Northbound Performance, The System

Does Your Body Feel Slow, Stiff, and Weak?

If so, something is missing from your training. Not effort. Not consistency. Something structural.

You used to feel athletic. Now your body feels like it's working against you.

You're not broken. Your system is disconnected.

Nothing about this means you're damaged goods. It means three parts of your body that are supposed to work as one team have stopped talking to each other.

01

Core to Hips

Your core braces and your hips move. When that handoff breaks down, your low back picks up the slack, every single rep.

02

Strength to Movement

You can be strong in a gym and still weak in the position that actually matters, mid turn, mid swing, mid stride.

03

Training to Recovery

Train hard and never recover on purpose, and your body starts treating effort itself as the threat.

You've probably already tried all of this.

Result: temporary relief. The pain always finds its way back.

Pain is not a mobility problem. It's a load tolerance problem.

When your body can't control force, can't absorb force, and can't produce force on demand, it does the only rational thing left. It protects itself. That protection is what you've been calling tightness, stiffness, or "just getting older."

Tightness is protection, not a length problem.

Your body tightens up when it doesn't trust the stability underneath it, when it senses a weak link somewhere in the chain, or when the load coming at it feels unpredictable. You can't stretch your way out of a trust problem. You have to prove to your nervous system, through repetition, that the position is actually safe to load.

Ben Davies, Coach

I came back from an AC joint separation and years of chronic lower back pain, and I run Northbound Performance out of Vancouver. I've spent over a decade and more than 1,500 coaching sessions building this system, first on myself, then on the clients who come to me feeling exactly the way you do right now.

"I didn't become stronger after my back healed. My back improved because I finally learned how to become stronger."

Three phases. Built to reconnect what's disconnected.

Phase 1

Reconnect

Get your core and your hips talking to each other again, so your low back stops covering for both of them.

Phase 2

Rebuild

Build real strength through your full range, not around the parts that feel unstable.

Phase 3

Reinforce

Make training and recovery work as one system, so effort stops being something your body has to defend against.

Most programs guess. This one primes, builds, and trains the whole system.

Most Programs
  • Chase fatigue and call it progress
  • Isolate muscles instead of training how you actually move
  • Treat recovery as an afterthought, if it's addressed at all
This System
  • Primes the nervous system before it ever asks for output
  • Builds strength through range, in the positions that actually matter
  • Trains the whole system, core, hips, strength, movement, and recovery together

This works. The question is whether you start now or six months from now.

Book a free discovery call and we'll figure out exactly where your system is disconnected, and what Phase 1 looks like for you specifically. No pressure, no countdown timer, no fake scarcity.
